Boomer and handler John MalliaK-9 Boomer Back on the Job

        According to Lt. William Rohrer, C.O., Public Information Section, on January 2004, "Boomer", a nine-year-old German shepherd and his K-9 handler John Mallia, responded to a domestic disturbance in Rocky Point. John Anzalone, 41, had assaulted his live-in girlfriend and then fled the scene. When Boomer located the suspect, the man stabbed the dog six times. Officer Mallia was also slashed on the hand as he moved in to make the arrest. Seventh Precinct Officers then subdued Anzalone and took him into custody.

        Officer Mallia was treated for his injuries at Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson and released. Boomer underwent a three-hour surgery at the Coram Animal Hospital.

        Anzalone was charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Injuring a Police Animal, Aggravated Cruelty to an Animal, Resisting Arrest and Harassment 2nd Degree. He is to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on February 10, 2004.

        Less then a month later, Boomer was deemed fit for duty.

        On his first day back to work, January 29th, Boomer was involved in a pursuit through the backyards and wooded areas in the Station Road area of Bellport. The K-9 Hero, once again, located the suspect who was wanted for driving with 63 suspensions of his driver's license.

Man Arrested For DWI, Suspended License and Unlawfully Dealing With a Child

        Suffolk County Police Department Fifth Precinct Crime Section Officers arrested a 28-year-old Brentwood man for driving two teenage girls around while drinking and for having nine suspensions on his driver's license.

        According to Sgt. Robert E. Koerber of the Fifth Precinct Crime Section, on February 8, at about 6:25, two Fifth Precinct Crime Control Officers observed a gray Toyota Celica driving erratically on Beaverdam Road in Bellport. Upon stopping the vehicle, the officers discovered Martin D. Ramnarine II, 28, of Brentwood driving in an intoxicated condition. He was in the company of two teenage girls. In addition to open alcoholic beverage containers, police also found a marijuana cigarette in the ashtray.

        Ramnarine was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 2nd Degree, Two counts of Unlawfully Dealing With A Child 1st Degree, Criminal Possession of Marijuana 5th Degree, and two violations of the Vehicle and Traffic Law. The passengers, Heather M. Lopez, 17, and Sarah M. Jacobsen, 16, both of Middle Island, were charged with a violation of The Alcoholic Beverage Control Law and Criminal Possession of Marijuana 5th Degree. Lopez faces an additional charge of Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. The two girls were issued appearance tickets and were released to their parent's custody.

        Ramnarine was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on February 9. The two girls will be arraigned at a later date.
