In an effort to make government more accessible, Congressman Tim Bishop has slated a Town Hall Meeting, entitled Youve Got Questions, for the Mastic/Shirley area.

Now more than ever, we need to join together to protect our families and secure our future, Bishop said. I hope people will join me at the Town Hall meeting and let me know whats on your mind so I can best represent your views in Congress. I want to discus the issues that affect Long Islands families.

The Town Hall Meeting will be held at the Mastics, Moriches, Shirley Community Library on Tuesday, at 301 William Floyd Parkway, in Shirley, on August 12 at 7:00 PM.

Additionally, Bishop will be available, on Saturday, August 9, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM, for Community Office Hours, at the Pathmark Shopping Center located at 800 Montauk Highway in Shirley. I will be there, along with staff caseworkers, to offer all of the services traditionally handled in the local Coram and Southampton offices, Bishop said.

For me to best represent my constituents, I would like to hear from people in person. But I know that many hard working families are too busy to come to me. Thats why Im having community office hours here in Shirley.

Bishop and his staff will have a table set up at the shopping center and residents are invited to discuss issues and concerns, including specific problems that originate at the federal level of government.

Bishop said that many area residents have concerns with veterans issues, pertaining to benefits and services rendered at Northport Veterans Hospital, particularly now when cuts, closures and reorganizations have been announced this week. Still others have issues concerning immigration, housing, prescription drug plans, the environment, and social security.

For more information about these events, call the Congressmans District Office at 631-696-6500.
