"I am pleased that Presiding Officer Postal has appointed me to these committees. At this critical period in our county's history, they will put me in the best position to represent the interests of residents of the 3rd Legislative District and county residents as a whole," Towle said.
"Legislator Towle has a reputation of being one of the Legislature's hardest workers and more thoughtful legislators. His commitment to his district and county residents will help to ensure the drafting and passage of legislation designed to address the fiscal and other issues our county currently faces," Postal said.
The Public Safety Committee has jurisdiction over all law-enforcement matters pertaining to not only the Suffolk County Police Department, but also to the Fire, Rescue and Emerg-ency Services; the County Sheriff's De-partment, The County Correctional Facilit-ies; the Probation Department; the County Fire Code; Auxiliary Police; and the District Attorney's Office.
"Considering my work to help bring the Suffolk County Police Department's 7th Precinct to Shirley and ongoing concern of crime among the residents of the 3rd District, I look forward to working with our law enforcement offices and personnel to ensure that they have the resources they need to protect county residents," said Legislator Towle.
The Budget Com-mittee is charged with developing the Coun-ty's Annual Operating and Capital Budgets. The Committee also monitors the investments made by the County Treasurer and reviews all proposals concerning technological improvements. The Public Works Committee is responsible for overseeing the Depart-ment of Public Works, including Vector Control, County sewer districts and maintenance of County buildings. The Health, Education & Youth Committee is responsible for overseeing the Department of Health, including County health clinics, as well as youth programs and educational programs funded by Suffolk County.
"I look forward to working with my colleagues on these committees and in the full legislature as we begin the hard work of the 2003 legislative session. As we move forward towards finding long-term fiscal solutions, we must ensure that county residents receive the highest quality services and that these services are being provided in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible," said Legis-lator Towle.
