Residents will have access to free health screenings, support services and family entertainment during a Community Health Fair set for Saturday, Aug. 22, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 85 Surrey Circle in Shirley.

Sponsored by Assemblyman Joe DeStefano and state Sen. Dean Murray, the free event will bring healthcare providers and community organizations together in one location to connect residents with important services and information.

Available services will include glucose, blood pressure and asthma screenings, along with STD and HIV testing. Representatives will also offer mental health assistance and domestic violence resources and support.

“This health fair is about making essential services convenient and accessible to the people who need them,” DeStefano said. “Residents can receive important health screenings, speak directly with service providers and learn about resources available to help them and their families.”

Participating organizations include Stony Brook Medicine, NYU Langone Health, the Mastics-Moriches-Shirley Community Library, Serve All, Heart & Health Medical, Touro Medical Center and the FAS Jesucristo Vive Foundation.

In addition to the health services, the fair will feature live music, family entertainment, free haircuts for children, face painting, popcorn and refreshments. A bounce house, clothing giveaways, assorted giveaways and other activities are also planned.

“Good health begins with information, prevention and access to care,” Murray said. “We encourage residents to stop by, take advantage of the free screenings and resources, and enjoy a day of family-friendly activities with their neighbors.”

Admission is free, and no registration requirement was listed for the event. Organizers said the fair is intended to provide a welcoming setting where residents can address health concerns while learning more about local programs and assistance.
