FSL Helps Thousands Start School Ready
Family Service League, in partnership with FourLeaf Federal Credit Union, distributed more than 4,800 backpacks filled with essential school supplies to more than 2,000 families through its annual Back-to-School Drive.

Thousands of Long Island students headed back to class with new backpacks and school supplies thanks to Family Service League, which is now turning its attention toward helping families during the holiday season.
Family Service League, in partnership with FourLeaf Federal Credit Union, distributed more than 4,800 backpacks filled with essential school supplies to more than 2,000 families through its annual Back-to-School Drive.
The backpacks were distributed through FSL programs and locations in Bay Shore, Huntington, Riverhead and the Longwood area. Seventy-five volunteers contributed a combined 250 hours to the effort.
“Prices have gone up on just about everything, making back-to-school season especially challenging for families as they face the cost of clothing, shoes and an endless list of school supplies,” said Lisa Jamison, division director at Family Service League.
With the school drive completed, FSL is preparing for Project TOY, its annual holiday program expected to serve more than 6,000 children and teenagers across Long Island.
Through Project TOY, participating families are able to select new toys and gifts for their children in a festive setting designed to provide families with choice and dignity.
“Every parent wants to see their child experience the joy and excitement of the holidays, but for many of the families we serve, even a few gifts can be out of reach after paying for basic necessities,” said FSL President and CEO Kerri Smith.
Smith said Project TOY relies on donations from individuals, businesses and community partners, including FourLeaf Federal Credit Union.
Community members can support Project TOY by donating through www.fsl-li.org, purchasing toys through FSL’s Amazon Wish List or texting FSLTOY26 to 41444.
Founded in 1926, Family Service League serves approximately 60,000 people annually through more than 60 programs at 20 locations across Long Island.
