Green Acres Mall Gets Three New Stores

Green Acres Mall is adding three new retailers, including the first True Religion designer jeans store on Long Island, as the Valley Stream shopping complex continues to fill new space.

The Town of Hempstead Industrial Development Agency approved leases Sept. 29 for True Religion, Timberland and T-Mobile at Green Acres Mall and the neighboring Green Acres Common.

True Religion, known for its designer denim and ties to hip-hop culture, plans to open a 2,818-square-foot store. Founded in 2002 and increasingly focused on Gen Z shoppers, the Los Angeles-based retailer operates stores and outlets in more than 20 states.

The Green Acres location is expected to employ the equivalent of 4.5 full-time workers with an estimated annual payroll of $75,000. The company already has New York City locations at Kings Plaza Mall in Brooklyn and Queens Center in Queens.

Timberland, the popular footwear and outdoor apparel brand, plans a 1,608-square-foot store employing nine workers with an estimated annual payroll of $195,600.

T-Mobile Northeast LLC was also approved for a 3,488-square-foot location expected to employ four full-time workers.

All three leases remain subject to execution.

Green Acres is owned by an affiliate of California-based Macerich Co. Because the mall participates in a payment-in-lieu-of-taxes, or PILOT, program, new leases require approval from the Hempstead IDA.

“These new leases continue to bolster our confidence in having made the right decision to provide assistance to the mall,” IDA Chief Executive Fred Parola said. “They will bring additional customers to the mall, provide additional jobs, and help to generate new sales-tax revenues.”

The Hempstead IDA provides financial assistance and tax incentives intended to encourage businesses to build, expand or relocate within the town. The agency says its assistance has resulted in more than $2 billion in project financing and created or retained 11,000 permanent jobs.
