Bayport-Blue Point came together Saturday to celebrate some of the most accomplished individuals and teams in the history of the school district, as the newest members of the Bayport-Blue Point Hall of Fame were officially honored.

This year’s class includes Kerrigan Miller, Class of 2016; Brian Wilson, Class of 2005; Kyle Wood, Class of 1989; the 2016 Long Island Championship girls volleyball team; longtime coach Jim Moccio; and contributor Dr. Timothy P. Hearney.

The Hall of Fame ceremony provided an opportunity for the Bayport-Blue Point community to recognize the lasting impact these inductees have made both on and off the field. Each represents a different part of the district’s rich athletic and community history, from championship competition and coaching to years of service and support for Bayport-Blue Point students and programs.

The 2016 girls volleyball team earned its place in school history by capturing a Long Island Championship, creating a lasting memory for the players, coaches and community members who watched the team reach the highest levels of competition.

The individual inductees also represent multiple generations of Bayport-Blue Point excellence. Miller, Wilson and Wood each made their mark during their time as Bayport-Blue Point student-athletes, while Moccio’s contributions as a coach helped shape generations of athletes. Hearney was honored for his contributions to the school community and his support of Bayport-Blue Point athletics.

Hall of Fame ceremonies are always about more than recognizing statistics, wins or championships. They are a chance for current students and athletes to learn about the people who helped build the traditions they now carry forward.

Saturday’s celebration brought together alumni, families, coaches and members of the community to honor six individuals and one championship team whose accomplishments will remain part of the Bayport-Blue Point story for years to come.
