Rocky Point Earns NYSPHSAA School of Distinction Honor

Rocky Point High School is earning recognition for an accomplishment that goes well beyond the playing field.

The school has been named a School of Distinction by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) for the 2025-2026 school year, an honor that recognizes the academic success of Rocky Point’s student-athletes.

Rocky Point earned the prestigious distinction after 100% of its varsity teams received NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete Team recognition during the school year.

To qualify for the Scholar-Athlete Team award, at least 75% of a team’s roster must maintain a grade-point average of 90 or higher during its respective sports season. For Rocky Point, every varsity team reached that standard, making the School of Distinction recognition a reflection of the commitment of student-athletes across the district.

The accomplishment highlights the balance Rocky Point student-athletes have been able to maintain between their responsibilities in the classroom and their commitment to their teams.

For high school athletes, balancing practices, games, travel and competition with the demands of academics is no easy task. Rocky Point’s achievement shows that its student-athletes have embraced both sides of that challenge.

The district shared its pride in the accomplishment, recognizing the students for their dedication in both areas.

The School of Distinction honor also represents the collective effort of Rocky Point’s coaches, teachers, administrators, families and, most importantly, the student-athletes who put in the work throughout the year.

While wins, championships and individual accomplishments often receive the most attention during a sports season, recognition like this serves as an important reminder that success is measured in more ways than what appears on a scoreboard.
