Sharks Bring Their Defense in a Decisive Win

Eastport-South Manor hit the road this week looking to bounce back after suffering a homecoming loss, and the Sharks did exactly that with a defensive performance that put them right back in the win column.

The Sharks dominated on defense in a 19-8 victory over West Babylon, improving their record to 2-1 on the season.

Eastport-South Manor’s defense was particularly impressive after halftime. Neither team was able to score a single point in the second half as the Sharks completely shut down the West Babylon offense and protected their lead the rest of the way.

Tommy Powers led the defensive charge, finishing with eight tackles and a sack. He also made perhaps the biggest play of the afternoon when he blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown, giving the Sharks a defensive score and providing another example of how their defense contributed to the victory in a big way.

Joey Hershey also turned in a strong performance, rushing for 135 yards while making an impact on defense with an interception.

The Sharks’ ability to create big plays defensively was the difference in the game. After allowing West Babylon to score eight points, Eastport-South Manor completely shut the door in the second half, turning a close game into a victory.

Following last week’s homecoming loss, the response was exactly what the Sharks were looking for. Eastport-South Manor now has a 2-1 record and will look to keep the momentum going when it takes on Smithtown West this week.

The matchup could provide another opportunity for the Sharks’ defense to make its presence felt. Smithtown West has struggled to put points on the board in its two losses this season, scoring just seven and nine points in those games.

If the Sharks can once again bring the same defensive intensity they showed against West Babylon, Eastport-South Manor could be in position to make it two straight victories.

For the Sharks, the message was clear this week: one tough loss does not define a season. They answered their homecoming defeat by hitting the road and putting together a defensive performance that got them right back on track.
