Stony Brook football continues to make noise this season, and redshirt freshman defensive end Khalid Bueno is leading the charge on the defensive side of the ball. Bueno was named the Stats Perform FCS National Freshman Player of the Week following a dominant performance that helped the Seawolves secure a 31-24 victory at Towson last Saturday.

The win extended Stony Brook’s winning streak to three games, and Bueno played a major role in the team's success. The young defensive standout consistently disrupted Towson's offense, finishing with 4.5 tackles for loss and three sacks while contributing to seven plays that pushed Towson ball carriers behind the line of scrimmage.

Bueno also recorded eight total tackles, three quarterback hurries that resulted in incompletions and a forced fumble. His ability to pressure the quarterback, stop the run and create turnovers made him a constant problem for the Towson offense throughout the contest.

The national recognition comes as Bueno continues to establish himself as one of the most productive defensive players in the Football Championship Subdivision. He currently leads the FCS in both sacks and tackles for loss, an impressive accomplishment for a redshirt freshman competing at the collegiate level.

Through the season, Bueno has accumulated 16 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks, numbers that highlight his impact on the Seawolves' defensive front. His ability to get into opposing backfields has helped Stony Brook create negative plays, disrupt offensive rhythm and put pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

For the Seawolves, Bueno's emergence has been an important part of a team that is building momentum with three consecutive victories. His combination of strength, quickness and relentless pursuit has made him a difference-maker as Stony Brook continues its season.

The Stats Perform honor recognizes Bueno's outstanding individual performance while shining a spotlight on Stony Brook's growing success. With the Seawolves riding a three-game winning streak and their young defensive star producing at an elite level, the program has plenty of reasons to feel encouraged about what lies ahead.
