Stony Brook Soccer Programs Enter Rare Territory

Stony Brook University soccer is off to a remarkable start, and both Seawolves programs are making some history along the way.

The Stony Brook men’s and women’s soccer teams have both opened the season undefeated, putting the Seawolves in some very rare company nationally. In fact, Stony Brook is one of just five schools in the country whose men’s and women’s soccer programs have both remained unbeaten to begin the season.

Joining Stony Brook in that exclusive group are Michigan State, Stanford, Ohio State and UNC Wilmington.

Having one soccer program get off to an undefeated start is impressive. Having both the men’s and women’s teams accomplish it at the same time is a much tougher task, making the Seawolves’ early-season success something worth keeping an eye on.

For Stony Brook fans, it also creates an exciting atmosphere around both programs. While the two teams have their own schedules and challenges ahead, they are sharing something special this season — neither has experienced a loss yet.

Of course, an undefeated start does not guarantee how the rest of the season will play out. There is plenty of soccer still to be played, and conference competition will provide plenty of tests along the way.

But for now, the Seawolves are enjoying a distinction shared by only a handful of programs across the country.

With both Stony Brook soccer teams starting the year unbeaten, the Seawolves have given their fans another reason to pay attention to what is happening on the pitch.

Five schools. Two soccer programs at each. And, at least for now, no losses.

That is some pretty rare territory for Stony Brook.
