The Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame has unveiled its 14th exhibit, recognizing the athletes, coaches and sports leaders who have connections to the Patchogue-Medford community. The display is also the seventh exhibit housed inside a Suffolk County library, bringing local sports history closer to the residents who helped shape it.

The unveiling celebrated the accomplishments of individuals who have made lasting contributions to athletics, both on and off the playing field. The exhibit highlights the rich sports tradition of the Patchogue-Medford area and recognizes the local figures whose achievements have earned them a place among Suffolk County’s finest.

Special thanks go to Hall of Fame committee member Jamie Labelle and supporter James Bertsch for overseeing the unveiling and helping bring the exhibit to life.

Among the Hall of Fame inductees recognized are several familiar names with impressive accomplishments across different levels of sports. Former Major League Baseball players Marcus Stroman, Tom Murphy and Jeff Schaefer are featured alongside college football running back Peter Chevlot.

The exhibit also recognizes accomplished coaches, including Harry Read, Kevin Foley and Frank Layden, as well as Tom Combs, a former Patchogue-Medford athletic director who helped shape the school's athletic programs.

From professional athletes who reached the highest levels of competition to the coaches and administrators who dedicated themselves to developing young athletes, the honorees represent the many ways individuals can leave their mark on the sports world.

By bringing these stories into a local library, the Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame is preserving the area's athletic heritage and giving residents an opportunity to learn more about the people who helped build it.

The new exhibit serves as a reminder that Patchogue-Medford's sports legacy extends well beyond wins and championships, reflecting generations of dedication, leadership and community pride.
