SWR Field Hockey Opens New Era with Victory on New Home Turf

The Shoreham-Wading River varsity field hockey team opened a new chapter in program history with an exciting victory in its very first game on the Wildcats’ newly renovated home field.

Playing on the new turf for the first time, SWR wasted little time giving the home crowd something to cheer about. The Wildcats came out with energy and confidence, eventually finding the back of the cage three times on their way to an impressive opening-day victory.

Madison Rizzi got the scoring started, opening the game with a goal off a great assist from Mae Kilkenny. The early goal gave the Wildcats momentum and set the tone for an exciting afternoon on their new home turf.

SWR continued to apply pressure, and Isabella McManus doubled the lead with a goal assisted by Isabella Minnion.

Minnion then went from playmaker to goal scorer, capping the scoring by finding the back of the cage herself. Zoey Verderosa picked up the assist on the final goal, completing a terrific offensive effort for the Wildcats.

While the three goals provided plenty of excitement, the day was about more than just the final score. The newly renovated field represents another exciting addition to the Shoreham-Wading River athletic community and gave the Wildcats an opportunity to create a little history of their own.

Opening a new home field with a victory made the occasion even more memorable for the players, coaches, families and fans who came out to support the team.

The Wildcats summed up the excitement afterward with a message celebrating the team's performance and the special occasion.

“Congratulations to the girls on a thrilling first game on the new turf. What a way to protect home field! Go Wildcats!”

For Shoreham-Wading River field hockey, the new era could not have gotten off to a better start. The Wildcats now have a new home—and their first win on it will always be part of the story.
