Video Vault: Bruce Blakeman Believes the Governor’s Race Is a ‘Virtual Dead Heat’

South Shore Press Managing Editor Stefan Mychajliw spoke exclusively to Nassau County Executive and Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman, while Mychajliw guest hosted on NewsRadio 930 WBEN.

Blakeman discussed polling in the governor’s race, criticized Gov. Kathy Hochul’s record and outlined what he said would be his priorities for taxes, public safety and economic development if elected.

Mychajliw: What is your reaction to the Siena poll showing this as a 10-point race?

Blakeman: The good news is that it showed that it’s not a 20-point race like it was six weeks ago. We’ve seen probably seven different polls that would demonstrate right now that it’s a virtual dead heat. If anything, I’m ahead a couple of points or behind a couple of points.

Mychajliw: What do you believe Hochul’s priorities on immigration say about her administration?

Blakeman: She doesn’t care about New Yorkers, and that’s why they’re miserable. I want to be the governor that puts New Yorkers first. I want to be a governor that makes people happy. I want to create better jobs with higher pay, with better benefits, create economic activity and make this a vibrant community. Mychajliw: What would you do differently on taxes, public safety and the economy?

Blakeman: I will cut taxes, I will cut your electric bills and I will make it job number one to make every community safer. We need better jobs, economic activity, safer communities and lower taxes and lower electric bills.

Mychajliw: What does your record as Nassau County Executive show voters about how you would govern statewide?

Blakeman: In four years, I haven’t raised taxes a penny. As a matter of fact, my predecessor wanted to raise taxes $150 million. I canceled that tax increase. I hired 900 additional cops, corrections officers and probation officers. I’ve had four budget surpluses, haven’t raised taxes and I’ve gotten seven bond upgrades. We need a unifier as governor, somebody who’s going to make sure that every community is materially improved.
