A Mastic Beach man was indicted after allegedly leading Suffolk County sheriff’s deputies on a wild 15-mile chase while intoxicated, smashing into vehicles, tearing through yards and ultimately crashing into a CVS, prosecutors said.

Vladimir Alonzo, 23, allegedly barreled down Sunrise Highway at more than 100 mph around 12:25 a.m. June 27 when a deputy tried to pull him over near Exit 50, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

Alonzo initially stopped near Exit 52 but allegedly took off as the deputy approached, weaving through traffic before leaving the highway, striking a street sign and driving through residential yards.

The mayhem continued onto Yaphank Avenue and Montauk Highway, where Alonzo allegedly blew a red light and slammed into a telephone pole.

Deputies later boxed in his battered 2022 Ram 3500, but Alonzo allegedly rammed a patrol vehicle and sped away again.

At Montauk Highway and William Floyd Parkway, prosecutors said Alonzo ran another red light and struck a Toyota Sienna carrying two people, causing the minivan to spin and overturn. Both occupants suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Alonzo allegedly kept going, eventually losing control while attempting a high-speed turn and crashing into a CVS Pharmacy at Havenwood Drive East. His truck became wedged between a pillar and the building, ending the chase.

Deputies arrested Alonzo and allegedly found open alcohol containers inside the truck. Prosecutors said his license was expired.

Alonzo was indicted on reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, assault, DWI and other charges.

District Attorney Raymond Tierney blasted state bail laws after Alonzo was placed on supervised release without bail, saying the charges are not bail eligible. His driving privileges were suspended.

Alonzo is due back in court Sept. 25 and faces up to seven years in prison if convicted of the top count.
