A Patchogue man was arrested after allegedly driving without a license when his car struck and seriously injured a pedestrian early Sunday, Suffolk County police said.

Edison Jovanny Morocho Gonzalez, 24, was driving a 2018 Honda Civic southbound on Route 112 near Silver Street when he struck a pedestrian crossing the roadway at approximately 3 a.m., according to police.

The pedestrian, identified as Savier Alverca Jiminez, 43, of Patchogue, suffered serious injuries in the crash.

Jiminez was rushed to NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk in Patchogue for treatment, authorities said. Police did not immediately provide additional information about his condition.

Fifth Squad detectives arrested Morocho Gonzalez and charged him with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Police said he was also arrested on multiple outstanding warrants, though authorities did not specify what those warrants were for.

Morocho Gonzalez was being held overnight at the Suffolk County Police Department’s Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday, Aug. 17, at First District Court in Central Islip.

Police did not say whether speed or other factors may have contributed to the crash.

Fifth Squad detectives are continuing to investigate and are asking anyone with information about the collision to call them at 631-854-8552.

The charges against Morocho Gonzalez are accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
