Witches, vampires, pirates, and ghouls in all manners of crazy costumes took over Main Street in Center Moriches for the annual “March of the Goblins,” sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce of the Moriches.

Now in its fourth year, the event offers a safe trick-or-treating experience with local businesses and officials participating along the closed-off section of downtown.

Hundreds of families turned out under beautiful autumn skies, with children collecting candy from merchants while plenty of grown-ups got into the Halloween spirit with costumes of their own.

“The kids had an absolute blast, and it was just as much fun watching the adults get dressed up,” said Jennifer Leary of East Moriches. “It's wonderful to see the whole community come together like this. The children get to enjoy Halloween in a safe environment, and everyone gets to have a good time.”

Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine and Legislator Jim Mazzarella took up their traditional posts outside Bank Street Park, handing out candy alongside Brookhaven Supervisor Dan Panico and Romaine's wife, Diane.

“This is what makes our hometowns so special,” Romaine said. “You have hundreds of families enjoying themselves, local businesses opening their doors, and a community tradition that just keeps getting better. Diane and I look forward to seeing all the children in their costumes every year.”

“The March of the Goblins is one of those events that brings out the very best in our community,” Mazzarella said. “The costumes are fantastic, the kids are having a ball, and the parents know they're in a safe place. It's always a pleasure to be part of it.”

With candy bags filling up and the downtown bustling with Halloween characters of every description, the annual celebration once again proved that when the goblins take over Center Moriches, everyone is in for a treat.
