More than 600 of Suffolk County's finest young musicians will come together for the annual Fall All-County Festival, showcasing the talents of high school juniors and seniors selected through a rigorous audition process.

The concert will be held Friday, November 13, at Half Hollow Hills High School East, bringing together students from 54 high schools for a performance highlighting the strength of music education across Suffolk County.

Co-sponsored by the Suffolk County Music Educators' Association (SCMEA) and the Suffolk County chapter of the New York State Council of Administrators of Music Education (NYSCAME), the festival gives students an opportunity to perform under the direction of accomplished conductors and music educators.

The young performers earned their places through competitive auditions held last spring, distinguishing themselves among their peers for their musical abilities and dedication to their craft.

With only three rehearsals to prepare, the students will face the challenge of coming together as an ensemble in a remarkably short period.

The festival will feature four musical groups, each led by a distinguished guest conductor.

The Symphonic Band will perform under Brian Balmajes, a renowned composer and conductor. The Treble Choir will be directed by Dr. Heather J. Buchanan of Montclair State University, while Helen H. Cha-Pyo of the New Jersey Youth Symphony will lead the All-County Orchestra.

Dr. Amy Voorhees of Susquehanna University will direct the Mixed Chorus, completing a program designed to challenge and inspire the young musicians.

Dr. John J. Gallagher, who handles public relations and information for SCMEA, emphasized the significance of bringing together more than 600 talented students from across the county for the annual event.

The festival also recognizes the music educators whose instruction and encouragement helped the students reach this level of achievement.

SCMEA, a county affiliate of the New York State School Music Association, advocates for quality music education throughout Suffolk County, while NYSCAME supports educational leadership and the development of school music programs statewide.
