Bayport-Blue Point Earns State Academic Honor

Bayport-Blue Point High School has been named a 2025-26 School of Excellence by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, recognizing strong academic performance among its student-athletes.

The school was one of just 40 Long Island high schools to earn the designation this year.

To qualify as a NYSPHSAA School of Excellence, at least 75% of a school’s varsity teams must receive the organization’s Scholar-Athlete Team Award. That honor requires the average grade-point average of the top 75% of each team’s roster to be at least 90%.

The recognition highlights achievement away from the athletic fields and courts, with Bayport-Blue Point officials saying academic success remains a major priority for the district’s sports programs.

“While we take tremendous pride in the accomplishments of our student-athletes on the playing field, we are equally proud, if not more so, of their commitment to excellence in the classroom,” said Tim Mullins, the district’s director of physical education, health and interscholastic sports.

Mullins said the athletics department considers academic dedication an important measure of success alongside championships and other athletic accomplishments. He credited the recognition to the work of students as well as the coaches and teachers who support them throughout the school year.

“This recognition is a testament to the hard work, perseverance and commitment of our student-athletes, as well as the coaches and teachers who continually support, challenge and inspire them,” Mullins said.

The School of Excellence program is designed to recognize high schools whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate academic achievement across their varsity programs.

District officials said Bayport-Blue Point’s designation reflects a schoolwide commitment to balancing academic achievement with success in interscholastic athletics.
