Burnout Bust: 9 Arrested, 12 Cars Seized

Suffolk County police arrested nine people and impounded 12 vehicles after busting an alleged street takeover that turned Central Avenue in East Farmingdale into a late-night smoke show, authorities said.

Investigators said members of the department's Street Takeover Task Force learned through intelligence gathering and social media monitoring that drivers planned the event near Plainview and East Farmingdale on Friday night.

At approximately 11:40 p.m., officers found numerous vehicles allegedly blocking Central Avenue while drivers performed donuts, burnouts and other dangerous stunts, effectively shutting down the roadway, police said.

Officers moved in, arresting nine suspects, impounding 12 vehicles and issuing 46 traffic tickets for various alleged violations.

Charged with misdemeanor unlawful speed contest were Logan Woodwiss, 23, of Merrick; Devanny Alvarezcanela, 20, of Merrick; Christopher Sosa, 31, of Corona; Joseph Miller, 18, of Deer Park; Davon Chavesmariano, 26, of Brentwood; Justin Jadunandan, 20, of Jamaica; Dale Richardson, 30, of Uniondale; Maher Jaghab, 21, of Merrick; and Brian Fortune, 22, of West Islip.

The defendants are scheduled to appear in First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.

Police said the crackdown reflects continued efforts to stop dangerous street takeovers before they spiral into crashes, injuries or worse. Authorities credited proactive intelligence work for allowing officers to respond quickly after the gathering began.

Street takeovers have become an increasing enforcement priority across Suffolk County, where investigators monitor online posts advertising illegal gatherings.

Friday night's bust is just the latest salvo in Suffolk's war on street takeovers. Police say their Street Takeover Task Force has shattered 92 illegal events since late 2024, issuing more than 8,650 summonses, making 65 arrests and seizing 103 vehicles as officials intensify their campaign against the reckless gatherings fueled by social media.
