A Mastic woman whose pit bull mauled a 2-year-old boy and attacked his uncle is headed to jail after authorities say she repeatedly violated the terms of her probation.
Amy Willi, 48, was sentenced Tuesday to eight months behind bars after admitting she failed to comply with numerous court-ordered conditions stemming from the vicious 2023 dog attack, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney announced.
The attack unfolded March 14, 2023, after Willi failed to properly secure her male pit bull, Kojo, inside her home, prosecutors said.
When Willi opened her front door, Kojo bolted outside and charged toward a 2-year-old boy playing across the street.
The toddler’s uncle scooped up the child in an attempt to protect him, but Kojo bit the man’s forearm, causing the boy to fall to the ground, authorities said.
The dog then repeatedly bit the toddler in the face, head and body, leaving him with lacerations to his eye, cheek, scalp and leg.
Family members eventually forced Kojo to release the child. The boy was rushed to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he received stitches.
Prosecutors said Willi admitted she knew Kojo was dangerous and had violent tendencies. The dog was later abandoned, taken to a shelter and euthanized after attacking a staff member.
Willi pleaded guilty to second-degree reckless endangerment in September 2024 and was sentenced to three years probation in April 2025.
Her conditions included completing 320 hours of community service, reporting to probation, avoiding alcohol and narcotics and participating in treatment. She was also prohibited from owning or caring for animals.
Prosecutors said Willi violated virtually every condition except the animal prohibition.
“This defendant’s repeated disregard for court orders, the rule of law and public safety is unacceptable,” Tierney said.
Willi admitted violating probation Wednesday and was sentenced to eight months in jail.
