A 25-year-old Port Jefferson Station man suffered a medical episode while driving westbound on Route 347 Wednesday evening, triggering a chain-reaction crash that sent his vehicle through two fences, a shed and into a home on Adrienne Lane, Suffolk County police said.

The driver was in the left-turning lane at Plaisted Avenue around 7 p.m. when the episode occurred. His vehicle struck the car in front of him, a vehicle driven by a 61-year-old Hauppauge man, pushing that car into the intersection. The Port Jefferson Station man's vehicle then turned southbound on Plaisted Avenue, crossed the front lawn of 99 S. Plaisted Ave. — narrowly missing that house — and crashed through two fences and a shed before slamming into a home at 30 Adrienne Lane.

The home at 30 Adrienne Lane sustained significant structural damage. A sign posted on the front door declared the property unsafe to occupy, police said.

No one inside the home was injured, the Smithtown Fire Department said. The driver and a passenger in the crashing vehicle were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

"It's amazing that they didn't hit the other house as they came through like that," said neighbor Joe White.

Neighbor George Wiemer said he was relieved no one suffered life-threatening harm. "There are children in the neighborhood," Wiemer said. "The young person who had this incident is, hopefully, okay. It's one of those things that could've been a tragedy."

No charges have been filed, Suffolk County police said. The investigation is ongoing.
