TRAFFIC ALERT: Route 454 Ramp To Northern State Closing Overnight
The ramp connecting westbound State Route 454, also known as Veterans Memorial Highway, to the westbound Northern State Parkway will close at 9 p.m. Tuesday, August 25th.

Motorists traveling through Smithtown should prepare for an overnight ramp closure this week as crews perform guiderail repairs at the Northern State Parkway and Veterans Memorial Highway interchange.
The New York State Department of Transportation announced that the ramp connecting westbound State Route 454, also known as Veterans Memorial Highway, to the westbound Northern State Parkway will close at 9 p.m. Tuesday, August 25th.
The ramp is expected to remain closed until 5 a.m. Wednesday, August 26th.
According to the DOT, the temporary closure is necessary to allow crews to safely conduct guiderail repairs at the interchange.
Drivers who normally use the ramp will be directed to continue westbound on Veterans Memorial Highway to southbound Lincoln Avenue. Motorists can then use Cedar Street/Parkway Drive North to reach the westbound Northern State Parkway.
The closure is scheduled during overnight hours, when traffic volumes are typically lighter, but motorists traveling through the area should allow additional time and be prepared to follow the posted detour.
The Northern State Parkway and Veterans Memorial Highway interchange is a major connection for drivers traveling through the Smithtown and Hauppauge areas and provides access between Route 454 and the parkway.
The DOT said the construction schedule is weather-dependent and could change depending on conditions.
Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling through the work zone, pay attention to signs and follow the designated detour until the ramp reopens Wednesday morning.
