East Islip Contractor Charged With Larceny After Abandoning Stony Brook Job
Suffolk police seek additional victims of Michael Specchio, whose license had expired.
Suffolk County Police arrested an East Islip contractor Monday on charges of grand larceny and operating without a valid license after a Stony Brook homeowner said he accepted payment for renovation work, completed only part of it, then walked off the job.
Sixth Squad detectives took Michael Specchio, 48, of East Islip, into custody at the Sixth Precinct at 3 p.m. and charged him with third-degree grand larceny and working as an unlicensed contractor, police said. An investigation revealed that Specchio's Suffolk County contractor's license had lapsed.
A woman hired Specchio's company, M3 Development Group Inc., on Jan. 8 to carry out home improvements at her residence in Stony Brook, police said. Specchio left the project unfinished and did not return, according to police.
Specchio was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday.
Police urged anyone who believes they may have been victimized by Specchio to call 631-852-COPS (2677), saying additional victims may exist.
