Jake’s 58 Betting Big on Expansion
Suffolk OTB President and CEO Phil Boyle discusses a new 110,000-square-foot casino, hundreds of additional parking spaces and plans to nearly double daily attendance at the popular Islandia gaming destination.

Suffolk Regional Off-Track Betting Corporation President and CEO Phil Boyle recently spoke with the South Shore Press about the major expansion underway at Jake’s 58 Casino Hotel.
South Shore Press: What’s the latest on the expansion?
Boyle: The Village of Islandia just approved our 8.5-acre overflow parking lot, which will provide 759 new spaces. Anybody who’s been to Jake’s knows parking has been an issue. This will greatly help.
South Shore Press: When will the new casino open?
Boyle: We’re well on our way to completing Phase One, a new 110,000-square-foot casino that will eventually house all 2,000 gaming machines. We’re hoping for a ribbon-cutting in mid-December, possibly a little later.
South Shore Press: What will happen to the existing building?
Boyle: Phase Two begins early next year. The original building was never designed as a casino. We’re considering additional dining options, a sports bar or sportsbook and other amenities. That phase will take another 18 months to two years.
South Shore Press: How many people visit Jake’s?
Boyle: We currently average between 3,000 and 5,000 patrons daily. After the expansion, we could see closer to 7,000.
South Shore Press: How does Suffolk benefit financially?
Boyle: We’re a public benefit corporation, and our profits primarily support education. Millions of dollars go toward schools annually through the gaming system.
South Shore Press: What about those big jackpots?
Boyle: We’ve had winners take home $2.3 million and $1.9 million. Our progressive machines offer substantial jackpots, and our state-regulated payout percentages exceed 90%.
South Shore Press: What excites you most?
Boyle: People familiar with Jake’s will be amazed by the new building. We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone, especially those who have never visited before.
