The Summer Reading Club for Kids is in full swing at the library. There are two clubs, one for early readers where parents can do activities and read to their children birth-entering Kindergarten.

The school age club is for kids entering 1st grade through 6th grade. Join online or stop in to sign up.

Read books or do activities to complete your activity board. Every hour that you read earns you a raffle ticket for the weekly raffle of prizes. Every 5 hours read, you get a button.

Completed summer reading club members (19 hours of reading) get entered to win the grand prize of a tablet computer!

This year, summer reading club is all online through the Beanstack app. Come by the library Children's Department or visit our website to find out more.

It’s easy to track your activities though the app using your phone or tablet. Plus, reading club is a healthy way for parents and kids to bond over picking out books to read, going to the library, and celebrating achievements together.

Participating in Summer Reading Club can help children maintain academic skills over the summer break. Here is how summer reading stops the “summer slide”:

Stops Brain Drain: The brain is a muscle. Just like playing a sport, reading keeps the brain strong. Reading just 6 books over the summer can stop reading skills from dropping.

Builds New Words: Reading books exposes kids to new words. This makes their vocabulary larger and helps them understand bigger ideas in school.

Makes Learning a Habit: Regular reading keeps kids in a learning mode. Even just 20 minutes a day can stop the "summer slide."

Keeps Kids Interested: When kids pick books they like, they stay curious. This makes reading feel like fun instead of a chore.
