Mattera Brings Backbone to Albany
With a blue-collar background and a determination to challenge the Democrat energy policies, Sen. Mario Mattera has become one of Long Island’s strongest advocates for affordability, reliable power and fiscal responsibility.

Albany needs more people like Sen. Mario Mattera, a straight-talking, blue-collar representative who understands how the real world works and isn't afraid to challenge Gov. Kathy Hochul and the Democratic majority when their policies threaten Long Island families.
A former Plumbers Local 200 leader who began his career as a welder at the Shoreham Nuclear Power Station, Mattera brings something increasingly rare to the State Legislature: firsthand knowledge of the energy infrastructure that keeps our homes heated, businesses operating and economy moving.
His opposition to Hochul’s aggressive electrification mandates reflects a fundamental reality: Long Island's electrical infrastructure is nowhere near ready to support the wholesale abandonment of natural gas.
Mattera has been a relentless advocate for the Northeast Supply Enhancement pipeline, challenging the governor's energy policies while working with labor leaders and federal officials to advance a project designed to strengthen the region's natural gas supply.
He has also sounded the alarm over battery energy storage facilities, questioned the reliability of wind and solar power without adequate backup generation, and promoted modernizing existing power plants rather than prematurely abandoning proven energy sources.
His efforts extend beyond energy policy. Mattera helped secure funding for sewer improvements while pushing PSEG Long Island to strengthen storm-vulnerable electrical infrastructure.
Equally impressive is his willingness to confront Albany's runaway spending. Mattera refuses taxpayer-funded campaign matching funds, insisting his political operation should rely on voluntary contributions rather than public money.
He recognizes that affordability means more than political slogans. It requires reliable energy, responsible spending, economic opportunity and elected officials willing to stand up for taxpayers.
The South Shore Press resoundingly endorses Mario Mattera for reelection to the State Senate. Long Island needs his experience, independence and determination to hold Albany accountable.
