Murder In Mastic: Dad Stabbed Dead, Son Busted

A Long Island man was arrested Monday after his father was fatally stabbed inside his Mastic apartment, moments after the wounded man called 911 for help, Suffolk County Police said.

Edward Brown called 911 at approximately 12:30 a.m. Monday and told authorities he had been stabbed inside his apartment at 73 Mastic Blvd., police said.

Officers and members of the Mastic Volunteer Ambulance Company rushed to the apartment and attempted life-saving measures, but Brown could not be saved. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A short time later, police arrested Brown’s 33-year-old son, Sage Arias-Brown of Lake Ronkonkoma.

Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives charged Arias-Brown with second-degree murder in connection with his father’s death.

Police did not immediately disclose what allegedly sparked the deadly encounter or provide additional details about what happened inside the apartment before Brown made the desperate 911 call.

Arias-Brown was being held overnight at Suffolk County Police Department’s Sixth Precinct. He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday, Sept. 8, at First District Court in Central Islip.

The investigation into the fatal stabbing remains ongoing.
