Rock's Fashion Trailblazer Earns Hall of Fame Spot
The woman who gave Twisted Sister its outrageous look and helped define the flamboyant fashion of 1980s rock will become the first costume designer inducted into the Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame.

Before the wild hair, explosive makeup and over-the-top costumes became synonymous with 1980s rock, there was Suzette Guilot-Snider, a young Long Island fashion designer with a sewing machine and a vision to turn a rock concert into a Broadway-style spectacle.
Now, the woman who helped create one of rock's most recognizable images is getting her own place in music history.
Guilot-Snider will be inducted November 14 at the Hall of Fame’s Stony Brook Village location, with her husband, Twisted Sister frontman and fellow inductee Dee Snider, presenting the honor. Born in Brooklyn and raised on Long Island, Guilot-Snider began sewing as a child, making doll clothes from socks. She attended Nassau BOCES and entered Manhattan’s Fashion Institute of Technology at 16, eventually establishing her own business designing clothing for rock bands and New York boutiques. Her career took a defining turn when she sneaked into a Levittown club to see Twisted Sister. She began designing costumes for Dee Snider, then her boyfriend, before creating the colorful, theatrical outfits that became the band’s trademark. “It has been a dream of ours to induct into LIMEHOF, not just musicians and entertainers but also artists who from behind-the-scenes have shaped and branded the magic of these performers,” said Creative Director Kevin O’Callaghan.Guilot-Snider’s influence extended beyond music. She created Howard Stern’s 1980s rocker look and worked in television, film, theater, hair and makeup. During a 2023 visit to the Hall of Fame, she saw her Twisted Sister costumes displayed in an exhibit celebrating Long Island’s legendary club scene. “I’m not the kind of person who looks for complements or really shows off my work, but it’s pretty amazing to see them on display,” she said. Explaining her vision, Guilot-Snider recalled wanting Twisted Sister concerts to resemble Broadway productions, combining lighting, costumes, makeup and hair to transport audiences into another world. The public induction ceremony begins at 8:30 p.m. at 97 Main Street, Stony Brook. Tickets are available through the Hall of Fame’s website: limusichalloffame.org
