Smithtown Man Killed After Car Splits in Half on Northern State Parkway

A 29-year-old Smithtown man was killed Monday night when his car veered off the Northern State Parkway, split in two and ejected him from the wreck, state police said. Salvatore Sparacino IV was driving a 2010 Volkswagen EOS westbound near the New Highway overpass in Smithtown at approximately 8:30 p.m. when the crash occurred near Exit 46, police said. State police criminal investigators said Sparacino was speeding and driving erratically when he drove off the road. When troopers arrived, they found Sparacino ejected from the vehicle, which had been ripped in half. He was the only occupant of his car, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash, police said. Greater Long Island identified Sparacino as a manufacturing engineer and Eagle Scout from Smithtown. Police did not release additional details about the circumstances of the crash.
