Bill Blaster Puts Government Contacts, Votes at Users’ Fingertips

Want to know what your local representative is up to — and tell them what you think about it?

Bill Blaster, a free government-tracking and political activism app promoted by Steve Bannon’s War Room, has rolled out a major update giving users easier access to elected officials, legislation, congressional committees and individual voting records.

“We completely redesigned the directory,” Grace Chong, a member of the Bill Blaster team, said during a War Room discussion. “You can browse the federal officials by state with names organized underneath. You can search directly by name.”

The app also includes state officials, allowing users to find contact information for governors, lieutenant governors, attorneys general, secretaries of state, state senators and representatives.

Bill Blaster has also expanded its congressional information. Users can see who serves on congressional committees, track the status and latest action on legislation, identify sponsors and co-sponsors and contact lawmakers associated with individual bills.

One of the biggest additions is congressional roll-call voting.

“You can pull up a roll call and see what the vote was all about, whether it passed or failed, the vote by party, exactly how every single member voted,” Chong said.

Users can then jump directly from the roll call to information about the underlying legislation and export voting reports.

Push notifications add an activist component. War Room can send alerts about legislation or votes it considers important, directing users to contact lawmakers.

“You get the alert, open Bill Blaster, and you can immediately start calling or contacting whomever or everybody,” Chong said.
