The midterms are here within a matter of days and there are hotly contested congressional races throughout the union.

Millions of dollars are being spent on the hottest races.

It’s likely that many of these races will be decided by just a few percentage points.

The biggest question hanging over these midterms is which party will control Congress next year.

Factors entering into the votes of those still undecided will range from the state of the economy, to the war in Iran, to the character and quality of the candidates, to various local issues,

But if you’re still an undecided voter in one of these congressional races, we believe that you should be giving priority to this one thing:

How will that candidate cast his/her vote for Speaker of the House or the Majority Leader in the Senate?

So many of the other issues are merely incidental to this one over-riding vote.

That single congress member you elect may have the power to determine whether the speaker next year is Republican Mike Johnson, Democrat Hakeem Jeffries, or a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.

The vote on who becomes the next speaker will have a greater impact on your children and grandchildren than any other vote that individual will take.

That’s because the speaker and majority leaders will have the power to stack every committee with a majority of his or her party, thereby controlling what legislation gets out of committee and what gets buried there.

They will also have the power to control investigations and subpoenas.

If your politics veer to the left, your priorities are going to be best promoted with a Democratic speaker. Likewise, if you fear the growth of the Democratic Socialists or the leftist policies of the past, including open borders, massive spending increases, the infusion of woke politics into our schools and institutions, men playing in women’s sports and invading women’s private spaces, shutting down fracking and needed gas pipelines, then you will most certainly want to elect a Republican to Congress, who will thereafter vote for a Republican speaker or majority leader.

You might think the Democratic candidate is smarter, cooler, more articulate, or more cordial. You might even like that he’s perceived as a moderate on issues such as Israel or the border, but that will all be irrelevant if he would vote for a Democratic Socialist or liberal Democrat to control Congress.

In a bygone era, we would usually say vote for the qualities of the person over the party platform. But in these highly partisan days, what is most important is having those sharing your policy positions at the helm of every committee on Capitol Hill.

What good is having a so-called moderate on the border if that official casts the deciding vote for a speaker who opens the door for the type of massive flood of illegal immigration’s we saw in the Biden years?

What good is supporting a so-called opponent to anti-semitism if he votes for a speaker who allows for radical jihadists to terrorize Jewish students on campus?

What good is supporting a so-called moderate who says he will oppose males invading girls' sports and locker rooms, if he votes for a speaker who will champion those causes?

The party that controls the speakership is the party that controls America’s future.

And that’s why your congress member’s vote on the speaker is the one that should determine your vote this November.
