President Donald Trump has unleashed a blistering attack on socialism and its growing influence within the Democratic Party, accusing the political movement of promoting policies that could devastate the American economy and undermine the nation's prosperity.

Backed by a new White House economic analysis, the president is warning voters about the staggering consequences of the socialist agenda.

Trump condemned efforts to "sanitize, normalize, and romanticize" socialism, describing its historical results as "misery, starvation, and death."

“Socialist and communist regimes have killed some 100 million people through engineered famines, mass executions, and slave labor camps,” the President said in a White House statement.

“That same ideology is now being sold to Americans by the Democrat Socialists of America and the Radical Left that dominates the Democrat Party.”

The administration accused Democrats of promoting an agenda that threatens American prosperity, pointing to proposals for government-run healthcare, mass amnesty, eliminating police departments and the Green New Deal.

Trump's Council of Economic Advisers estimates the proposals would add nearly $50 trillion to the national debt over ten years, a potential burden the administration says will cost about $400,000 per American household. The current debt is $40.34 trillion, or $299,000 per household, and is increasing at the staggering rate of $6.65 billion per day.

The White House warned that financing the socialist programs through higher taxes could reduce take-home wages nearly 30%, while borrowing could produce soaring inflation and mortgage rates exceeding 12%.

The President also criticized a Newsweek feature testing readers' interest in a socialist revolution, arguing that the ideology's historical record is no laughing matter.

Trump has previously warned that socialist policies could leave Americans living in "squalor," with shortages of food, housing and basic services. The President, barnstorming across the country in support of Republican Congressional candidates, has been quick to note the failure of socialism and communism practically every time it’s been tried throughout history.

“Democrats are deliberately attempting to hasten the destruction of American prosperity, security, and freedom — and if given the chance, they’ll gleefully turn America into a third-world country,” Trump concluded. "America the Beautiful will never be a Communist Country.”
