A Thursday Night Football Love Fest

I’m all over Jordan Love tonight to have a big game, and honestly, I think the setup is about as clean as you could ask for.

Everything is lining up for Love.

The Packers simply haven’t been able to consistently run the football since Josh Jacobs landed on the commissioner’s exempt list, and at this point, it almost doesn’t matter who they put in the backfield. That puts even more pressure on Love and the passing game.

And that’s exactly where I want to be.

Expect plenty of throws tonight, particularly when Green Bay gets into the red zone, where Love remains the trusted commodity. The Packers are going to need him to make plays, and I expect them to lean heavily on his arm.

There are also some encouraging developments on the personnel front. Tucker Kraft is getting healthier and getting closer to being in full game shape, giving Love another legitimate weapon in the passing game. Jonnu Smith also figures to be on the field as an additional tight end in 12-personnel packages, creating another matchup the Falcons have to account for.

Then we get to Atlanta’s secondary.

The Falcons are down their best cornerback, and the replacement has shown a tendency to give up plenty of room in coverage. That’s a matchup I expect the Packers to attack, and it only strengthens the case for Love to put the ball in the air early and often.

Love has already thrown two touchdown passes this season, and both came on the road against quality defenses. That’s an important piece of this play for me. He has already shown that he can produce away from Lambeau and against better competition.

Put it all together, and I see a quarterback with a favorable game script, additional weapons, a questionable opposing secondary and a Packers offense that may have little choice but to throw.
