Kaelen Culpepper, SS, Twins

Culpepper had to wait until August 7 because of hip/glute stuff that ate most of June and July. Since he got the job, he's hit .340/.382/.480 with two homers in 55 plate appearances, and the second homer came off the bat at 105.9 mph. That's not a fluky infield-hit line. The 21st pick in 2024 mashed .271/.367/.478 with 14 homers and 17 steals at Triple-A St. Paul, and he's already sitting .308 with an .851 OPS in the big leagues.

The counting stats are still light — four RBI and six runs in 14 games — because he's been hitting at the bottom of a mediocre Twins lineup. That can change. He stole 46 bases in 54 tries in the minors, so if he starts running he plays in mixed leagues right now. If he doesn't, he's still a stash in 15-team and a must in AL-only. Nine percent Yahoo. That's too low.

Chris Bassitt, SP, Orioles

Bassitt sat 93.4 mph on the sinker Tuesday against St. Louis and threw 6 2/3 of one-run ball. That's his hardest start since May 2024, and don't treat him like an ace because the velo ticked up once. Treat him like a rotation piece you can start this week without feeling sick. If the extra velocity sticks, you just found a playoff starter for nothing.

Calvin Faucher, RP, Marlins

Pete Fairbanks is on the 15-day IL with right median nerve irritation, and Faucher was already the guy Miami used in the ninth when Fairbanks sat Saturday. He's allowed two runs with 21 strikeouts over his last 14 innings. That's the add if you need saves this week.

This is not "Faucher is the closer for two months." Nerve stuff is messy and Fairbanks can come back. For the next couple weeks, though, Miami's ninth is sitting on the wire. If you are hunting saves, this is the one that actually has a path.
