Future Softball Stars Shine at Summer Camp

Future softball stars from grades 3 through 11 took to the field this past week at Smithtown High School West, where they spent the week learning the game, building friendships, and having fun during the annual Smithtown Booster Club Summer Softball Camp.

The camp gave young athletes the opportunity to improve their skills while learning from experienced coaches and players in a positive, encouraging environment. Under the direction of Smithtown High School West varsity softball coach Mike Forman, campers focused on developing the fundamentals of the game through a variety of drills, skill-building exercises, and team activities.

Throughout the week, players worked on hitting, fielding, throwing, baserunning, and overall game strategy, all while gaining confidence and a greater appreciation for the sport. Whether they were just beginning their softball journey or preparing for the next level of competition, each camper had the chance to grow both on and off the field.

Making the week even more special was the return of High School West alumna Erin McDaid, who came back to help coach and mentor the next generation of Smithtown softball players. McDaid shared her experience with the young athletes, offering instruction, encouragement, and advice while serving as an outstanding role model for aspiring players.

Summer camps like this have become an important tradition in the Smithtown community, giving young athletes the opportunity to stay active, improve their skills, and connect with teammates during the offseason.

More than just teaching softball fundamentals, the camp emphasized teamwork, sportsmanship, and having fun while creating lasting memories. It also gave campers a chance to learn from those who once stood in their shoes and went on to represent Smithtown at the varsity level.

With another successful summer camp in the books, the future of Smithtown softball continues to look bright. If this week's enthusiasm and dedication are any indication, there will be plenty of talented players ready to carry on the program's proud tradition in the years ahead.
