Hills West Serves Up Family Fun and a Sibling Championship

The Half Hollow Hills West girls tennis program recently brought its players, families and friends together for a day of tennis, competition and community during its annual Serve-A-Thon and Friends and Family Doubles Tournament.

The event has become a special tradition for the Hills West tennis community, giving players an opportunity to step away from the usual high school competition and share the courts with some of the people who support them throughout the season.

This year’s tournament featured plenty of fun and competitive doubles action, with players teaming up with family members and friends for a day that was as much about enjoying the sport as it was about winning.

When the final matches were completed, it was a pair of siblings who stood at the top of the tournament.

Maya Ahmed, a seventh grader who competes on the Hills West varsity team, teamed up with her older brother, Kaden, and the duo captured the tournament championship.

For Maya, the opportunity to compete alongside her brother made an already memorable day even more special.

Playing varsity tennis as a seventh grader is an accomplishment in itself, but the tournament offered Maya the chance to experience the sport in a different setting. Instead of competing solely against her high school teammates and opponents, she shared the court with family and friends while still bringing the competitive spirit that has helped make her a member of the varsity program.

The Serve-A-Thon and doubles tournament also highlighted the important role families play in supporting high school athletics. From cheering in the stands to helping young athletes develop their skills, family support is a big part of what makes a school sports program successful.

For Hills West girls tennis, the annual event provided another opportunity to bring the Panthers community together while celebrating the sport and the players who make the program special.

And this year, the tournament produced a championship team with a family connection, as Maya and Kaden Ahmed walked away with the title after a memorable day on the courts.
