I'm going right back to Parker Messick, and I think this is one of the spots where I like him as much as I have all season.

Messick has been remarkable this year, posting nine wins with a 2.59 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP. More importantly for this matchup, he's been incredibly consistent.

Messick hasn't allowed more than two runs in any of his last eight starts dating back to June. He's also allowed more than two runs just twice since May 3. That's the kind of consistency I want when I'm laying money on a pitcher.

Now he gets to face a San Francisco offense that has been, quite frankly, pretty bad.

The Giants scored just one run last night and have scored two runs or fewer in six of their last 11 games. That's not exactly the offense I'm worried about when Messick is on the mound.

Meanwhile, Cleveland's bats have been doing their part.

The Guardians have scored at least five runs in three of their last four games, and now they'll face Matt Wilkinson, who is scheduled to make his first career major league start.

Wilkinson has been solid in the minors this season, posting a 3.40 ERA with a 6-6 record, so I'm not going to pretend he's incapable of getting outs. But making your first career start against a Cleveland lineup that's been swinging the bats well is a completely different challenge.

And at 270 pounds, Wilkinson certainly has the size to generate some power, but I'll take the experience and recent form of Messick over a rookie making his first start.

The Guardians have the better pitcher. They have the better offense right now. And they're facing a Giants lineup that has struggled to put runs on the board.

The only thing I don't love here is the price.

But sometimes you have to pay for the better side.

The play: Cleveland moneyline.

I'm willing to lay the heavy price because Messick has been too consistent to ignore, and this matchup sets up perfectly for Cleveland. I'll keep riding Messick and trust the Guardians to take care of business.

The Guardians are the better side at a steep price, and the clearest value question is whether Cleveland is still worth backing on the run line instead of laying the heavy moneyline in this matchup.
