Miller Place High School is celebrating a strong season in the pool, with three varsity independent swimmers earning recognition for their accomplishments and two qualifying for major championship meets.
Jocelyn Diaz, Audrey Keller-Schwab and Kaylee Vargas have represented the Panthers with determination throughout the season, continuing to make their mark as independent competitors.
Keller-Schwab, a junior, and Vargas, a ninth grader, have qualified in multiple events for the Suffolk County Championships, scheduled for Nov. 7 at Stony Brook University. The opportunity to compete at the county level is an important milestone for both swimmers as they look to finish their seasons on a high note against some of Suffolk County’s top talent.
Vargas has earned an additional honor, qualifying for the New York State Championships in the 100-yard butterfly. The state meet is scheduled for Nov. 20-21 in Webster, New York, giving the young swimmer an opportunity to test herself against some of the best competitors in the state.
Qualifying for championships requires consistency, preparation and the ability to deliver strong performances when it matters most. For Vargas, earning a state-meet berth as a ninth grader is an especially exciting achievement, with plenty of high school swimming still ahead of her.
Keller-Schwab’s multiple county qualifications also reflect the work she has put into developing her skills as a junior, while Diaz joins her teammates in earning recognition for her efforts this season.
The Miller Place community has plenty to celebrate as its swimmers prepare for the postseason. Their accomplishments highlight the dedication required to compete in a demanding sport where individual performances contribute to a larger team and school tradition.
The school shared its pride in the athletes and their achievements.
“We are so proud of our Panthers and wish them the best of luck as they continue to compete at the next level!”
With the county championships approaching and Vargas preparing for the state meet, Miller Place will have plenty to follow in the weeks ahead. The Panthers’ swimmers have worked hard to earn these opportunities, and they will now look to make the most of them.
