Nearly 100 Future Cheerleaders Have a Day

Sachem North High School was filled with plenty of school spirit as the district hosted its annual Cheer For A Day event, welcoming nearly 100 young athletes who got the opportunity to experience what it is like to be part of the Sachem cheerleading community.

The two-hour event gave the future Sachem cheerleaders a chance to learn new skills, work with members of the school's cheer program and, most importantly, have some fun along the way.

For the young participants, it was more than just learning cheers and routines. It was an opportunity to spend time with other local athletes who share their love of cheering while getting a glimpse of what could be ahead as they continue through the Sachem school system.

Events like Cheer for A Day are also a great way to build the connection between Sachem's younger athletes and its high school programs. For the participants, Friday night's football game will provide the chance to take what they learned during the event and perform in front of the Sachem community.

The young cheerleaders will be back on the sidelines when Sachem North hosts William Floyd. They will perform during the break between the first and second quarters, giving family members, friends and fellow Sachem supporters a chance to see the newest members of the Sachem cheering family in action.

With nearly 100 future cheerleaders taking part, there should be no shortage of energy in the stands — or on the field — when the young athletes get their moment in the spotlight.

For these young Sachem athletes, Cheer for a Day may only last two hours, but the memories made from learning, performing and being part of a Friday night under the lights could last much longer.
