Red Sox Rolling, A's Reeling

The Red Sox may not be quite as scorching hot as they were a few weeks ago, but let's not lose sight of the bigger picture. Boston is still playing outstanding baseball, winning 17 of its last 19 games, and the club appears to have found its new ace in Jake Bennett.

Bennett has been everything the Red Sox could have hoped for this season, posting an impressive 2.58 ERA while consistently giving his team a chance to win. He's been especially sharp of late, allowing just three earned runs over his last three starts. Stretch that out even further, and the numbers become even more impressive. Bennett has surrendered only eight earned runs across his last seven starts, proving this isn't just a hot streak—it's sustained dominance.

The Athletics will counter with Gage Jump, a talented young arm who has flashed plenty of upside but is still working through the growing pains that come with being a rookie. When Jump is on, he can be tough to hit. Unfortunately for Oakland, those outings have been the exception lately. He was roughed up by Arizona in his last start, allowing six runs in just four innings, and has now given up five or more earned runs in three of his last five appearances.

The trends couldn't be moving in more opposite directions. While Boston continues to stack wins and receive outstanding pitching from Bennett, the Athletics have completely fallen apart, dropping 15 of their last 18 games. That's not the type of team I'm looking to back, especially against a pitcher who has been this consistent.

Sometimes bettors have a tendency to overanalyze a matchup that's actually pretty straightforward. This feels like one of those games. Boston has the hotter team, the better starter, and all the momentum heading into this matchup.

Best Bet: Red Sox -135. Don't overthink this one. Jake Bennett has been dealing, Oakland continues to struggle, and I expect Boston to keep rolling.
