Smithtown East Field Hockey Honors Valerie Kratochvil

The Smithtown East field hockey team hosted its third annual Valerie Kratochvil Memorial Scholarship Game this week, bringing together players, families and community members to honor the memory of a beloved member of the Smithtown Central School District family.
The evening was about much more than field hockey. Nearly $3,000 was raised, with all proceeds going toward a memorial scholarship established in Valerie Kratochvil’s name. The scholarship serves as a lasting way to honor Valerie and continue her legacy within the Smithtown community.
As they have done during the previous two memorial games, Valerie’s parents, Margaret and Ken, attended the event and were presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers from the Smithtown East field hockey team.
The evening also received generous support from outside the Smithtown community. The Floral Park Police Department and the West Islip field hockey team both made donations to help support the scholarship fund.
Valerie was a dedicated member of the Smithtown Central School District family and left a lasting impression on those who knew her. She was remembered for her passion, determination and vibrant personality, qualities that were evident both on and off the field.
A talented athlete, Valerie was a valued member of the Smithtown East High School field hockey and track teams. She was also an avid runner who brought the same energy and commitment to track that she displayed on the field hockey pitch.
The annual memorial game provides an opportunity for current Smithtown East athletes to celebrate Valerie’s life while helping ensure that her connection to the school’s athletic community continues for years to come.
Smithtown East field hockey expressed its sincere appreciation to everyone who helped make this year’s event a success. From the players and coaches to the families, community members, police department and visiting field hockey program, the support demonstrated how much Valerie’s memory continues to mean to those around her.
The scholarship and annual game stand as a meaningful reminder that Valerie’s passion for athletics and her vibrant spirit continue to have an impact on the Smithtown community.
