This Monday, Smithtown is about to make a little Long Island sports history.

For the first time ever, a high school volleyball match will be played outdoors on Long Island when Smithtown West takes on Smithtown East on the turf at Smithtown East High School.

The historic matchup is scheduled for Aug. 31, with the boys taking the turf at 4 p.m. before the girls take the court at 6 p.m.

Instead of the familiar gymnasium setting, players will trade the hardwood for the turf and compete under the open sky. It is definitely something you don't get to see every day, and it should provide a unique atmosphere for both the players and everyone who comes out to watch.

The rivalry between Smithtown East and Smithtown West already gives the event plenty of excitement, but adding the historic setting makes this one even more interesting.

The Boys Game will begin at 4 p.m with the Girls Game to follow at 6 p.m.
