SWR Girls Cross Country Shines at Suffern Invitational

The Shoreham-Wading River girls varsity cross country team turned in an impressive performance at the Suffern Invitational, with runners from the Wildcats making their mark across multiple races.

Senior Ellie Connell led the way in the varsity race, finishing second overall with a blistering 5K time of 19:18. Connell’s strong performance highlighted a successful day for Shoreham-Wading River and showed the depth of talent throughout the program.

The Wildcats continued to excel in the JV race, competing against runners representing 28 schools. Sophomore Brynne Shinnick captured first place, crossing the finish line in 21:43. Teammate and fellow sophomore Victoria Hamilton followed closely behind, taking second place with an impressive time of 21:54.

The strong performances continued in the freshman race, where Shoreham-Wading River freshman Emma Trentowski earned a second-place finish among 41 runners. Trentowski completed the 1.5-mile course in 10:05, giving the Wildcats another top finish and further showcasing the program’s young talent.

With strong finishes coming from the varsity, JV and freshman levels, Shoreham-Wading River demonstrated that its success extends throughout the entire program. The performances from Connell, Shinnick, Hamilton and Trentowski provided plenty of highlights for the Wildcats at an invitational that brought together athletes from schools across the region.

For a program built on teamwork, endurance and consistency, having runners competing near the front of multiple races is an encouraging sign as the season continues.

The Wildcats’ showing at Suffern was a strong example of the depth within Shoreham-Wading River girls cross country, with experienced varsity leadership combining with emerging young runners to make an impact from the varsity race all the way down to the freshman level.
