Top Southpaw Honors for Schlesinger

Sachem High School alumnus Rafe Schlesinger continues to climb the professional baseball ladder, and his latest accomplishment is turning plenty of heads throughout the Cleveland Guardians organization.

Earlier this season, the hard-throwing left-hander earned a promotion to Double-A Akron after an outstanding first half of the year. Now, Schlesinger has added another impressive milestone to his growing résumé, as MLB Pipeline has ranked him the top left-handed pitching prospect in the Guardians' farm system.

Overall, Schlesinger is listed as Cleveland's No. 25 prospect, a testament to the steady development he has shown since beginning his professional career. His ability to overpower hitters has been one of his biggest strengths, and his numbers continue to back it up.

At the time of his promotion to Double-A, Schlesinger was tied for second in the Midwest League with 63 strikeouts, showcasing the dominant swing-and-miss stuff that has become his trademark. Through his season, he has recorded an impressive 105 strikeouts in just 89 2/3 innings pitched, averaging well over a strikeout per inning.

His success is no fluke. Throughout his minor league career, Schlesinger has piled up 228 strikeouts in just over 200 innings, demonstrating remarkable consistency and the ability to challenge hitters at every level.

The promotion to Double-A marked an important moment for the Sachem baseball community as well. Schlesinger became the first Sachem alumnus to reach the Double-A level since Alec Sole accomplished the feat in 2017 while playing in the Tampa Bay Rays organization.

As Schlesinger continues his journey through the Guardians' farm system, he remains a player to watch. His impressive strikeout numbers, growing reputation and continued development have him moving in the right direction, giving Suffolk County baseball fans plenty of reasons to follow his progress.
