The William Floyd girls varsity tennis team continues to add to one of the strongest traditions in Suffolk County high school sports.

Led by two-time USTA Coach of the Year and William Floyd Athletic Hall of Famer Dave Pia, along with assistant coach Michael Clauberg, the Colonials put together another outstanding season in 2026, capturing the Division Championship and earning their 24th consecutive playoff berth.

William Floyd finished the season with an impressive 8-1 League record and a 13-3 mark overall. The division championship was the Colonials’ fourth in the past six seasons, continuing a remarkable run of success for the program.

Their strong regular season earned William Floyd the No. 2 seed in the Section XI playoff bracket and a first-round bye. The Colonials are scheduled to host their opening playoff match on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 2 p.m., against the winner of the matchup between No. 15 Walt Whitman and No. 18 Patchogue-Medford.

Pia credited much of the team’s success to an outstanding group of seniors who provided leadership and important contributions throughout the season.

That group included Lydia Van Cott and Gianna Martin, who delivered versatile performances in both singles and doubles. Anabel Van Cott, Rylie Wiegand and Tatiana Sanchez anchored the doubles teams while providing valuable leadership during some of the team’s biggest matches.

The Colonials recently celebrated their seniors during Senior Day. Joining the group were Katelynn DeLuca, Lydia Van Cott, Gianna Martin, Anabel Van Cott, Rylie Wiegand and Tatiana Sanchez, along with the coaching staff.

The team also received consistent contributions from DeLuca, junior Emma Hodgson and eighth-grader Addisyn Cummings, who each came through with important victories in singles play during the season.

William Floyd’s doubles teams were equally impressive. Sophomore Ava Asendorf, junior Emma Drees, freshman Madison Hodgson, sophomore Gabriella Montalbano and junior Madison Edwards all played important roles and helped the Colonials secure several key team victories.

With the division championship secured, the Colonials now turn their attention to the Section XI playoffs and the upcoming Suffolk County individual singles and doubles tournament.

The Van Cott sisters will once again team up in doubles competition as they look to make another run at the county championship match. The sisters also hope to return to the NYSPHSAA Girls Tennis State Championships, where they advanced to the round of 16 last season.

For William Floyd, another division title and another playoff appearance are the latest chapters in a program that has made winning a yearly tradition.
