South Shore Press Endorsement: Saritha Komatireddy for NYS Attorney General
The Attorney General of New York holds extraordinary power. That power should never become a political weapon.

Justice is supposed to be blind. Incumbent Democrat NYS Attorney General is shameless in ripping off that blindfold to politically persecute her perceived enemies to score cheap political points.
For that reason alone voters of all parties should disqualify her for reelection and hire Republican challenger Saritha Komatireddy.
The Attorney General of New York holds extraordinary power. That power should never become a political weapon. James shamelessly and unabashedly abused the power of her office to persecute President Trump.
Letitia James entered the 2018 campaign promising to pursue the President. James called him an "illegitimate president" and declared that he "should be charged with obstructing justice."
These weren't remarks made after a completed investigation. They were campaign statements from someone seeking the authority to investigate and subsequently weaponize the very person she was denouncing.
A prosecutor's responsibility is to follow evidence toward a conclusion, not announce a conclusion and then pursue the evidence.
Now consider the Cornell 7 investigation.
Before being appointed special prosecutor, James publicly expressed support for the woman on Facebook.
This current controversy underscores why prosecutors must guard against even the appearance of prejudgment.
The office of New York State Attorney General demands and requires independence from political vendettas.
This is not about giving Trump, Cornell defendants or any other accused person special treatment. It is about ensuring that nobody receives worse treatment because of who they are.
Saritha Komatireddy brings a different and strong background to the race: federal terrorism prosecutions, narcotics cases, appellate litigation and leadership at the DEA. Those are substantial qualifications for an office entrusted with enforcing the law.
New Yorkers deserve an Attorney General who can prosecute aggressively without prejudging guilt, investigate powerful figures without political favoritism and defend victims without sacrificing defendants' rights.
The badge is not a campaign prop. The courtroom is not a political battlefield.
Justice must answer to the evidence. Never to revenge.
This is why the South Shore Press resoundingly rejects the hyper partisan Letitia James and endorses Saritha Komatireddy for NYS Attorney General.
