"We're going to fix this state. We're going to kick the socialists, the opportunists, the con artists and everyone else that has dragged this beautiful state down. We're going to make this a state we can be proud of again."

South Shore Press Managing Editor Stefan Mychajliw guest-hosted NewsRadio 930 WBEN, where he spoke with New York State Sen. George Borrello about New York's energy crisis, affordability, Medicaid fraud and the future of the Empire State.

Q: You remain optimistic about New York. Why?

Borrello: "We're going to fix this state. We're going to kick the socialists, the opportunists, the con artists and everyone else that has dragged this beautiful state down. We're going to make this a state we can be proud of again."

Q: Why is New York facing an energy crisis?

Borrello: "The New York Independent System Operator is saying we don't have the power. We've taken away reliable baseload power—natural gas, coal and nuclear—and replaced it with essentially nothing. That's why we have high energy rates and historically low safety margins."

Q: Why are utility bills continuing to rise?

Borrello: "It's supply and demand. We've reduced supply while demand has increased. At the same time, Albany has told energy producers not to invest because this climate agenda will eventually put them out of business. That's the foundation of the problem."

Q: What lesson should New York learn from Pennsylvania?

Borrello: "The Marcellus Shale extends beneath New York, yet Pennsylvania is creating jobs and prosperity while we're banning development. We even had a proposal to use CO2 extraction technology, and New York banned it before we had a chance to evaluate it."

Q: You also criticized New York's Medicaid oversight.

Borrello: "New York spends more per person on Medicaid than any state, yet the attorney general ranks last in recovering stolen Medicaid funds. Taxpayers deserve accountability when billions of dollars are involved."

Q: What's your message to voters?

Borrello: "Restore balance. Under one-party rule there's no negotiation, compromise or accountability. I don't care if you've been a lifelong Democrat. If you want different policies, you need different policymakers."
