Chinese Virologist Says New Evidence Vindicates COVID Coverup Claims

As Dr. Anthony Fauci returns to the center of attention amid congressional hearings on the COVID crisis, Chinese virologist Dr. Li-Meng Yan has renewed her longstanding challenge to his public account of the pandemic and his role in responding to it.

Yan accuses the former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director of helping conceal what she says were the true origins of the pandemic while allowing China to evade responsibility.

Yan’s latest remarks come as Fauci faces renewed scrutiny in Washington over his handling of the pandemic, including questions about federal funding for research conducted through EcoHealth Alliance and the origins of the virus. Yan believes newly released government documents reinforce claims she has made since early 2020.

Yan, who trained as a medical doctor and virologist, worked at the University of Hong Kong’s School of Public Health, a World Health Organization reference laboratory specializing in influenza and emerging infectious diseases. She says that in late December 2019 she was asked by her supervisor to quietly investigate reports of a mysterious pneumonia spreading in Wuhan.

According to Yan, that assignment gave her access to information from contacts in Chinese hospitals, laboratories, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and military circles. She said those sources convinced her that Chinese authorities were suppressing critical information about the outbreak almost immediately.

“I realized the Chinese government was covering it up and misleading the world,” Yan said.

She said doctors were ordered not to discuss the outbreak publicly, patient numbers were significantly underreported and Chinese officials falsely assured the international community there was no human-to-human transmission even after evidence suggested otherwise.

Yan has long rejected both the natural-origin theory and Fauchi’s claim that COVID-19 resulted from an accidental laboratory leak. Instead, she argues the virus was intentionally engineered and deliberately released as part of a Chinese military program.

She contends the virus was built upon coronaviruses identified by the People’s Liberation Army and developed through China’s military-civil fusion program. According to Yan, the outbreak was not the result of sloppy laboratory practices but a calculated operation that included human testing before the virus spread widely.

Yan further alleges that Chinese authorities conducted exercises involving a novel coronavirus before the pandemic became publicly known and later allowed infected individuals to travel internationally while locking down Wuhan domestically.

She argues those actions demonstrate the Chinese Communist Party knew far more about the virus than it admitted publicly.

While placing primary responsibility on Beijing, Yan reserved some of her sharpest criticism for Fauci.

She accused the longtime U.S. health official of serving as a key figure in preventing Americans from recognizing what she describes as the true origins of COVID-19.

“Fauci lies,” Yan said. “His role was to prevent Americans from realizing the truth.”

Yan argues Fauci’s significance was not that he created China’s research capabilities but that he helped legitimize research partnerships and later defended narratives she believes obscured the virus’s origins. She also claimed the United States transferred scientific knowledge that China later weaponized, although she said such exchanges extended far beyond Fauci alone.

In recent podcast episodes, Yan also pointed to documents released by Sen. Rand Paul through his COVID-19 “Reading Room” as validation of her earlier reports. She said the collection of emails, congressional testimony and declassified records confirms what she described as coordinated efforts by scientists, government officials and international organizations to dismiss laboratory-origin evidence.

Among the documents Yan highlighted were records showing U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials prepared to question EcoHealth Alliance President Peter Daszak upon his return from China in 2021 before the interview was reportedly canceled at the FBI’s request.

Yan said the documents demonstrate growing concern within parts of the U.S. government about Daszak’s connections to the Wuhan Institute of Virology and his organization’s role in funding coronavirus research. She also argued they support claims made in her own reports published between September 2020 and March 2021.

Throughout her public appearances, Yan has maintained that her conclusions have remained consistent despite years of criticism.

She says additional evidence released by government investigators has strengthened, rather than altered, her original assertions about COVID-19’s origins and what she describes as an international effort to conceal them.

Yan first gained international attention after leaving Hong Kong in 2020 and publicly accusing Chinese authorities of suppressing information about the outbreak. Since then, she has remained an active public voice on the issue, appearing in numerous television, podcast and online media interviews while continuing to publish reports advancing her conclusions about the pandemic.

She also hosts her own podcast, where she discusses COVID-19, China, biosecurity and related geopolitical issues, maintaining that the pandemic resulted from a deliberate Chinese military operation and that governments, scientific institutions and international organizations worked together to conceal the truth.

The renewed attention comes as the Florida Attorney General has subpoenaed Fauci in a state investigation into his pandemic-era conduct, while a Senate committee voted to hold him in contempt of Congress after he invoked the Fifth Amendment 111 times rather than answer lawmakers’ questions.
