Bay Shore Hospital Among Nation’s Best For Heart Surgery
Northwell Health's South Shore University Hospital has been named one of America's 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery by Healthgrades for the 10th consecutive year.

Northwell Health's South Shore University Hospital has been named one of America's 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery by Healthgrades for the 10th consecutive year.
The Bay Shore hospital also ranked No. 2 in New York State for cardiac surgery in 2027, adding to a growing list of national honors for its cardiac and orthopedic programs.
South Shore University Hospital has earned the prestigious cardiac surgery designation every year since 2018, placing it among a small percentage of hospitals nationwide to achieve the milestone.
The hospital received additional recognition as one of America's 100 Best Hospitals for Coronary Intervention for the sixth consecutive year, dating back to 2022.
It was also named one of America's 100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement in 2027.
The rankings are based on Healthgrades' analysis of Medicare patient outcomes, including mortality rates and complications following medical procedures.
According to Healthgrades, Medicare patients treated at hospitals receiving its America's 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery Award have, on average, a 59.8% lower risk of dying compared with patients treated at hospitals that did not receive the designation.
"These recognitions reflect the tireless work of our physicians, nurses and clinical teams who show up every day committed to delivering the highest-quality care," said Irene Macyk, president of South Shore University Hospital.
"A decade on the 50 Best list for cardiac surgery is not something that happens by chance," Macyk added.
The hospital provides a range of specialized cardiac services, including open-heart surgery, transcatheter heart valve procedures, coronary interventions and treatment for abnormal heart rhythms.
Its orthopedic program offers minimally invasive and robotic-assisted joint replacement procedures.
The Healthgrades mortality statistics are based on Medicare patient data collected from 2023 through 2025, with results adjusted to account for differences in patient risk.
